  • 600 g boneless chicken thighs or breasts cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 100 g panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil for frying or cooking spray (for air frying)
  • For the Honey Garlic Sauce:
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger grated
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional, for heat
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch to thicken sauce
  • 2 tablespoons water

Method
 

  1. Prepare the Chicken:
  2. Season chicken with salt and black pepper.
  3. Coat in cornstarch and flour mixture.
  4. Whisk egg and water together in a separate bowl.
  5. Dip chicken in egg wash, then coat with panko breadcrumbs.
  6. Cooking Methods:
  7. Pan-Frying: Heat sesame oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Cook chicken for 5-7 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Air-Frying: Preheat air fryer to 200°C (400°F). Spray chicken with cooking oil and cook for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway.
  9. Baking: Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F). Place chicken on a lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until fully cooked.
  10. Make the Sauce:
  11. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine honey, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes.
  12. Mix cornstarch with a little water and stir into the sauce to thicken.
  13. Simmer for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
